Due to changes in fire safety guidance and a
commitment to enhance fire safety, the Lift service team have
undertaken a review of Lift infrastructure and potential safety
performance in the event of a fire. This review has determined that
within high rise buildings and sheltered schemes improvements are
required to ensure that lift operability is maintained in the event
of a fire.
To convert our current lift stock into ‘firefighting
lifts’ the Lift service team seek to undertake a phased
programme for a contractor to install secondary power units within
communal areas to 68 high risk profile buildings (see the detailed
analysis for further information). These secondary power units will
allow Lift provision to the fire service in the event of a
fire.
We seek approval to procure this programme and award a contract to
a winning bidder. We also seek to award a ‘reserve
contract’ to the second-place bidder.
