Chain Temperature Control System - Hammersmith Bridge New!

Decision maker:  Leader of the Council

Decision:   August 2020

Lead officer:  Ian Hawthorn

Decision status:  Recommendations Approved

Notice of proposed decision first published: 26/08/2020

Reason for urgency:
Hammersmith Bridge has been closed because of an extension of a previous fracture. By controlling chain temperatures we are able to control the stresses on the chains and thus the stress on the cast iron deviator saddles. Controlling chain temperature is key asset in reducing any further fractures and an essential first step to being able to reopen the bridge to pedestrians and cyclists
